Most questions are answered below. If yours is not, write to us — telling us the device and roughly when the problem happened usually saves a round trip.

Is Boodo free?

The stories are. Every story in the library is available to every child, with no subscription and no advertising. Two things are paid for separately, both optional: making your own story, and drawing your own character. Those spend credits you buy through the app store you installed Boodo from, and nothing in the library is ever locked behind them.

Does Boodo record my child's voice?

No. When your child reads aloud, the words are recognised, compared with the story, and the audio is discarded immediately. Boodo never stores or uploads a recording.

Does Boodo work without internet?

Yes. Stories and every illustration are inside the app when you install it, so it works on a plane, in a car, and in a home with no broadband. When there is a connection, new stories arrive in the background. Making a story or a character does need a connection, because it is made for you at the time.

What age is Boodo for?

Boodo is designed for children aged about four to ten.

Does my child need an account?

No. Children do not create accounts and there is nothing to sign in to. A profile is made on the device and the reading history stays there.

How does making a story work?

A grown-up answers a times-table question, picks what the story should be about and who it stars, and Boodo writes and illustrates it in a minute or two. It costs one story credit. If it fails, the credit is not spent.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by the app store you installed Boodo from, so refunds go through them rather than through us. If something went wrong with a story or a character you paid for, write to us as well and we will look at it.

Which devices does Boodo run on?

iPhone and iPad running iOS 18 or later, and Android phones and tablets running Android 8 or later.
