What is free, and what is not

Every story in the library is free, for every child, with no subscription and no advertising. Nothing in it is locked.

Two things are paid for: making your own story, and drawing your own character. Each spends a credit bought through the app store you installed Boodo from. They are entirely optional, and a child who never uses them has the whole library.

Who agrees to these terms

Boodo is for children, so a parent or guardian agrees on their behalf. If you are setting Boodo up for a child, you are confirming you are old enough to enter into this agreement and that you are responsible for that child's use of it.

Credits and purchases

Credits are sold by the app store you installed Boodo from, under that store's own terms, and that is also where refunds are handled. We never see your payment details.

A credit belongs to the Boodo account on the device that bought it. Credits cannot be transferred between devices, have no cash value, and are not exchangeable for anything else.

A generation that fails does not spend a credit. One that succeeds does, including when you do not like the result — the work was done and paid for on our side. If something has plainly gone wrong, write to us.

Where we give credits away — a promotional code, or a test credit on a device we are supporting — they are a gift rather than a purchase and can be withdrawn.

Stories and characters you make

They are made by an AI model from what you chose, so no two are the same and we cannot promise a particular result. We ask the model to avoid a long list of subjects that do not belong in a children's story, and we check what a parent types before anything is made. Neither is a guarantee: please read a new story before giving it to your child, and tell us if something is wrong with it.

What is made is yours to use with your family inside Boodo. We keep a copy so the app can serve it to your device, and we do not publish it to the library or show it to anyone else.

Do not use these features to make something about a real person who is not your own child.

The library

The stories, illustrations and recordings in Boodo's library belong to us and are licensed to you for personal, non-commercial use inside the app. Please do not copy them out of it or redistribute them.

What Boodo is and is not

Boodo helps a child practise reading aloud. It is not an assessment, a diagnosis, or a substitute for a teacher or a specialist. Speech recognition makes mistakes, particularly with young children and with accents it has heard less of, so treat what it reports as a rough guide rather than a measurement.

Boodo is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and to the extent the law allows we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from using it.

Changes

We may update these terms. Where a change materially affects families using Boodo at home, we will say so in the app rather than quietly changing this page.
